18/02/2024 Morning worship

As the call to worship this morning, the band played the hymn tune ‘Be Still For the Presence of the Lord’.

Be still, for the presence of the Lord, the Holy One, is here;
Come bow before him now with reverence and fear:
In him no sin is found – we stand on holy ground.
Be still, for the presence of the Lord, the Holy One, is here.

Be still, for the glory of the Lord is shining all around;
He burns with holy fire, with splendour he is crowned:
How awesome is the sight – our radiant King of light!
Be still, for the glory of the Lord is shining all around.

Be still, for the power of the Lord is moving in this place;
He comes to cleanse and heal, to minister his grace –
No work too hard for him. In faith receive from him.
Be still, for the power of the Lord is moving in this place.

During worship, the band played Paul Sharman’s arrangement, ‘Hide Me Now’.

Hide me now
Under Your wings
Cover me
Within Your mighty hand

When the oceans rise and thunders roar
I will soar with you above the storm
Father, You are King over the flood
I will be still and know You are God

Find rest my soul
In Christ alone
Know His power
In quietness and trust

When the oceans rise and thunders roar
I will soar with you above the storm
Father, You are King over the flood
I will be still and know You are God

Your Joy Oh lord
will be my strength,
Renouncing fear
We stand in your glorious grace.

When the oceans rise and thunders roar
I will soar with you above the storm
Father, You are King over the flood
I will be still and know You are God

Major David reminded us that the world needs to hear the good news of God, that He is here. We must resist looking to institutions and programmes to see the progress God is making in this world. Instead we must look inside peoples’ hearts. When temptation knocks at our door, we must ensure we allow Jesus to answer.

At the conclusion of our meeting, the band played the hymn tune ‘Be Thou My Vision’.

Be thou my vision, O Lord of my heart!
Naught be all else to me, save that thou art;
Thou my best thought in the day and the night,
Waking or sleeping, thy presence my light.

Be thou my wisdom, be thou my true word;
I ever with thee and thou with me, Lord;
Thou my great Father and I thy true son;
Thou in me dwelling and I with thee one.

Be thou my breastplate, my sword for the fight;
Be thou my armour and be thou my might;
Be my soul’s shelter and thou my high tower;
Raise thou me heavenward, O power of my power!

Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise;
Thou my inheritance now and always;
Thou and thou only the first in my heart;
High King of Heaven, my treasure thou art!

High King of Heaven, thou Heaven’s bright Sun,
Grant me its joys after victory is won!
Christ of my own heart, whatever befall,
Still be my vision, O Ruler of all!
