12/05/2024 Morning worship

As the call to worship this morning, the band played the hymn tune ‘Ancient of Days’. We associate the following words with this tune.

Blessing and honour, glory and power,
Be unto the Ancient of Days.
From every nation, all of creation,
Bows before the Ancient of Days.

Every tongue in heaven and earth
Shall declare Your glory,
Every knee shall bow at Your throne,
In worship,
You will be exalted, oh God,
And Your kingdom shall not pass away,
Oh Ancient of Days.

Your kingdom shall reign over all the earth,
Sing unto the Ancient of Days.
None can compare to Your matchless works,
Sing unto the Ancient of Days.

On this candidates Sunday we spent some time praying for those who, in the coming months will be commissioned as Salvation Army officers, or will begin their training to become officers.

We were encouraged throughout worship to consider our service to God. Can we give an hour or two of our time to do something on our corps or community that makes a difference, without expecting anything in return. She reminded us that mission through generous discipleship is brings about spiritual growth both personally and as a church family, and then prayed that God will empower us through His spirit, and that Christ will make his home in our hearts.

During worship the band’s contribution was Paul Sharman’s ‘Everlasting Hope’ which features the song ‘Great Is Thy Faithfulness’.

Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth,
Thine own great presence to cheer and to guide;
Strength for today, and bright hope for tomorrow
Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside.

The band brought our worship to a conclusion by playing the hymn tune ‘He Is the Lord’.

He is the Lord and He reigns on high
He is the Lord
Spoke into the darkness, creating the Light
He is the Lord
Who is like unto Him, never ending in days
He is the Lord
And He comes in power when we call on His name
He is the Lord

[Chorus]
Show Your power
Oh, Lord, our God
Show Your power
Oh, Lord, our God
Oh, Lord, our God

Your Gospel, oh, Lord is the hope for our nation
You are the Lord
It’s the power of God for our salvation
You are the Lord

[Repeat Chorus]

We ask not for riches but look to the cross
‘Cause you are the Lord
And for our inheritance give us the loss
You are the Lord

Send Your power
Oh, Lord, our God
Send Your power
Oh, Lord, our God
Oh, Lord, our God
