04/02/2024 Morning worship

As the call to worship this morning, the band played Kevin Larsson’s bossa nova, ‘The Fruit of the Spirit’.

Now the fruit of the Spirit is patience,
And the fruit of the Spirit is peace,
The fruit of the Spirit is gentleness
And joy that will never cease.
The gift of the Spirit is healing,
And hope for the darkest hour,
The gift of the Spirit is love, yes, love
And power, and power.

During worship, the band played the meditation, ‘At the Cross’ by Paul Sharman. This piece of music was written for the commissioning of the ‘Disciples of the cross’ session, this music features the songs, ‘At the foot of the cross’ and ‘At the cross, at the cross, where I first saw the light’ along with references to other songs that speak of the cross and Jesus’ ultimate sacrifice for each one of us.

Major David told us that following Jesus will cost us in many ways. Following Jesus means denying ourselves and saying no to the things we imagine are important. But then, by doing that, the self we get back will be more joyful and glorious than we could ever imagine.

At the conclusion of our meeting, the band played the hymn tune ‘All Heaven Declares’.

All Heaven Declares
The glory of the risen Lord.
Who can compare
With the beauty of the Lord?
Forever You will be
The Lamb upon the throne.
I gladly bow the knee
And worship You alone.

I will proclaim
The glory of the risen Lord.
Who once was slain
To reconcile man to God.
Forever You will be
The Lamb upon the throne.
I gladly bow the knee
And worship You alone.
