02/06/2024 Morning worship (Generous Discipleship Sunday)

The band prepared us for worship this morning by playing the hymn tune ‘Give Thanks With a Grateful Heart’.

Give thanks with a grateful heart,
give thanks to the Holy One,
give thanks because he’s given
Jesus Christ, his Son.
Give thanks with a grateful heart,
give thanks to the Holy One,
give thanks because he’s given
Jesus Christ, his Son.

And now let the weak say, ‘I am strong’,
let the poor say, ‘I am rich’,
because of what the Lord has done for us.
And now let the weak say, ‘I am strong’,
let the poor say, ‘I am rich’,
because of what the Lord has done for us.

Give thanks.

On this our generous discipleship Sunday, our worship was led by Eileen Askham (Bangor).

Eileen reminded us that God has work for each of us to do. If we say we love God, then we have been called to serve Him. She challenged us to think about our own service to God today, and asked that we make ourselves wholly available to serve Him today.

During worship we held out altar service, where we placed our pledges on the altar.

The band’s contribution to worship was ‘And Can It Be?’ by Dan Forrest arr. Andrew Wainwright.

And can it be that I should gain
An interest in the Saviour’s blood?
Died He for me who caused His pain,
For me who Him to death pursued?
Amazing love! How can it be
That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?

He left His Father’s throne above,
So free, so infinite His grace,
Emptied Himself of all but love
And bled for Adam’s helpless race.
‘Tis mercy all, immense and free,
For, O my God, it found out me.

Long my imprisoned spirit lay
Fast bound in sin and nature’s night;
Thine eye diffused a quickening ray;
I woke; the dungeon flamed with light.
My chains fell off, my heart was free,
I rose, went forth, and followed Thee.

No condemnation now I dread;
Jesus, and all in Him, is mine.
Alive in Him, my living Head,
And clothed in righteousness divine,
Bold I approach the eternal throne
And claim the crown, through Christ, my own.

The band brought our worship to a conclusion by playing the hymn tune ‘When the Music Fades’.

When the music fades
All is stripped away
And I simply come
Longing just to bring
Something that’s of worth
That will bless Your heart
I’ll bring You more than a song
For a song in itself
Is not what You have required
You search much deeper within
Through the way things appear
You’re looking into my heart

I’m coming back to the heart of worship
And it’s all about You,
It’s all about You, Jesus
I’m sorry, Lord, for the thing I’ve made it
When it’s all about You,
It’s all about You, Jesus

King of endless worth
No one could express
How much You deserve
Though I’m weak and poor
All I have is Yours
Every single breath
I’ll bring You more than a song
For a song in itself
Is not what You have required
You search much deeper within
Through the way things appear
You’re looking into my heart

I’m coming back to the heart of worship
And it’s all about You,
It’s all about You, Jesus
I’m sorry, Lord, for the thing I’ve made it
And it’s all about You,
It’s all about You, Jesus
