Thought from the band – Dorothy Neil

Over the coming weeks we’ll be sharing testimonies and devotions from some of our band members.
Today it’s my turn to share devotions with you again (Dorothy Neil).
Have you ever been in a situation where you honestly thought your life was at an end, that you were going to die? If you have, I’m sure you will have found that an utterly terrifying experience.
If you’ve ever been diagnosed with serious health condition or illness that has meant you must undergo major surgery to try and save your life, I’m sure you’ll have experienced fear and doubt because your future was uncertain. In those circumstances, we put our lives in the hands of the those medical professionals.
How about from a spiritual perspective, have you ever felt your future is uncertain? We may be scared or fear for our future, but we need not fear as God is our life saver. He loves each of us unconditionally, and has saved us. God has planned our lives before we were even born. He guarantees our future, when we freely give our lives to him.
In this world there are health professionals who save physical lives on a daily basis. However in order to save our future life, God is our health professional, as when we give Him our lives, our heart and our all, He saves not only our lives, but guarantees our future with Him.
Today I give thanks not just for those health professionals who have saved my life, but also God, as I have accepted Him as my Lord, and know He will always be by my side.

Another one of my favourite songs is ‘Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone)‘. This always reminds that it’s only through God’s grace that I have been saved, and therefore have nothing to fear.

Amazing grace
How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost, but now I’m found
Was blind, but now I see
‘Twas grace that taught my heart to fear
And grace my fears relieved
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed

My chains are gone
I’ve been set free
My God, my Saviour has ransomed me
And like a flood His mercy rains
Unending love, Amazing grace

The Lord has promised good to me
His word my hope secures
He will my shield and portion be
As long as life endures
My chains are gone
I’ve been set free
My God, my Saviour has ransomed me
And like a flood His mercy rains
Unending love, Amazing grace

My chains are gone
I’ve been set free
My God, my Saviour has ransomed me
And like a flood His mercy rains
Unending love, Amazing grace
The Earth shall soon dissolve like snow
The sun forbear to shine
But God, Who called me here below
Will be forever mine
Will be forever mine
You are forever mine
