I was
brought up in a Christian family and committed my life to Christ when I
was just 7 years old. I was enrolled as a Senior Soldier (Adult Member)
of the Church in 1980. Whilst I always enjoyed the activities at the
Corps it was probably after my enrolment, rather than before, that I
really began to question what life was all about. I realised that if I
simply wanted to play in the band then it did not necessarily need to be
an Army one. It was at this point that I began to recognise just how
important my Christian faith was and that playing in a Salvation Army
band was a great way in which I could share and express my faith.

Following a
move with work to Chester in 1986, God called me to full time ministry
within the Salvation Army. In 1990 I was commissioned as a Salvation
Army Officer and served in this capacity for sixteen years in various
corps in the West of Scotland. During this time I got married to
Barbara and our two wonderful children, Amy & Luke, were born.
In 2006,
after a great deal of thought and prayer we felt God was directing our
paths in a different way and so I returned to secular employment with
the aim of eventually starting my own business. God has been good!
After my first year of full time employment I was able to go part time
in order to develop my business interests, and after the second year I
was able to become fully self-employed.

In early
2007 we started worshipping at the Salvation Army in Bellshill and very
quickly felt the warmth of the fellowship within the Corps. In 2008 I
resumed playing BBb Bass in the band and since then have enjoyed the
opportunities for ministry in various settings. I continue to sense
God’s direction upon my life. I pray that through both my business and
Salvation Army activities that I may be a good Christian example to
everyone with whom I come into contact. |
