22nd -
Morning Service at Bellshill Salvation Army
I was
privileged to be present at our morning service today, where we had a
new Junior Soldier (Simon Still) and a new Senior Soldier (Amy Kendall)
enrolled. The hall was packed to capacity with many family and friends
of both the young folk present to witness them making their promises to
God.
It was a
fantastic meeting with the commitments made by the youngsters the
highlight. The contributions from all the corps' musical sections
enhanced the atmosphere of the meeting. The band played "The Mission
from Gabriel's Oboe" on request of Amy and "Let There by Praise" on
Simon's request.

22nd - Ancaster
Square and Callander Kirk, Callander
After our morning service at Bellshill the band headed off to Callander
armed with uniform for all weathers - white shirts, tunics...and our
coats! During the journey to Callander we had rain, glorious sunshine
and cloud, so we were all wondering what the weather would be like when
we reached Callander.

We did two Songs of Praise concerts in Callander, the first outdoors in
Ancaster Square led by Ian Milligan - Our fears about the weather were
unfounded, it was dry and quite sunny at times so no need for our coats!
We played a some marches, Scottish music and some solo items - Cornet
solo by Yvonne Ferguson (My Love Is Like A Red Red Rose), euphonium solo
by Chris Shanks (Annie Laurie) and the flugel horn and trombone feature
I Will Follow Him. A good crowd of people gathered as the band played,
many asking for their favourite hymns which the band then played for
them.
After the hour long programme in the square, the band headed just a few
yard along the main road to Callander Kirk where we were provided with
some refreshments before the second Songs of Praise concert in the Kirk.
A number of people joined with the band in the Kirk for the second Songs
of Praise. during this concert the band played several pieces of music
in between playing for the favourite hymns selected by those who
attended the service.
During the service, Bandmaster Ian Dickie presented a framed picture of
the band, which had been signed by all the band members, to Bandswoman
Laura Mitchell, as this was her last engagement with band, as she is
moving down south to go to university in the next few weeks.
t was a long day for the band, but I'm sure all would agree with me that
it was an enjoyable day, and one full of blessing. Hopefully through the
message of the band at Callander, someone will have received
a blessing from the message we tried to bring.I
