Last updated: 06/12/2009 6th - Preview of Band Visit to Glamis Castle On Sunday 6th December the band will head north to Forfar, Kirriemuir and Glamis Castle. As well as services in Forfar and Kirriemuir the band will march through Glamis Castel and hold an open air service.
Below is a little bit of background information about Glamis Castle, taken from Glamis Castle information leaflet which youcan find on the Glamis Castle website www.glamis-castle.co.uk:
Glamis castle is a living, breathing monument to traditional Scottish hospitality; a place of enjoyment, laughter, reflection and wonder for all. As the family home of the Earls of Strathmore it still has that congenial atmosphere and its unique setting and sense of history remains unrivalled. Glamis embraces all who visit and leaves most with a collection of wonderful memories that will last a lifetime.
Your first glimpse of the castle is from the top of a mile long drive and what you see is a majestic building set against the backdrop of the Angus Glens. You know you are approaching a special place. Glamis is the childhood home of HM Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother, the birthplace of HRH The Princess Margaret and the setting for Shakespeare's Macbeth. Our guides put the personal touch to the tours, as they share with you the many fascinating stories and legendary tales that make up the castle's rich history.
There's something very tranquil about the gardens and grounds here. With a mix of formal and informal areas you are free to roam at leisure. Wildlife conservation is a key feature of our work so look out for some of the rare butterflies and bees that grace the gardens in the summer. Furthermore, Glamis is one of the few remaining places in Scotland where red squirrels can be seen so keep an eye out for them during your visit.
