21st - Band Feature on BBC Radio Scotland's Sunday Bandstand John Wallace, principal of the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and one of the world's best-known trumpeters, is presenting a special Sunday Bandstand summer series of the best brass and military band music on BBC Radio Scotland. This will comprise of four one-hour programmes of traditional and modern music from some of the greatest band recordings of recent years, plus interviews with leading figures from the brass band world and features on some of Scotland's leading bands.
Playlists for Sunday Bandstand will be available on the Radio Scotland website on a weekly basis while the series is on air - www.bbc.co.uk/radioscotland
The Band are featured in the second programme in the series, which was aired on Sunday 21st August 2005. In this programme John Wallace looked at the use of brass bands in the church and especially The Salvation Army. He highlighted that Salvation Army bands have developed a sophisticated and diverse repertoire, while retaining their core religious function, and have provided a training ground for many of the world's leading professional brass players.
During the programme, excepts from the band's contribution to the Sunday morning worship and the subsequent open air service (both at our corps in Bellshill) can be heard. Their are also short interviews with Captain Gary Robb (corps officer) and Bandmaster Ian Dickie where they explained to the listeners how the band contributes to the weekly worship at Bellshill and in our evangelism in the Bellshill area (and beyond!). Two of the younger member of the band, Assistant YP Band Leader Chris Shanks and Michelle Addie were also interviewed.
The programme is available to listen to on the radio player on www.bbc.co.uk/radioscotland for 7 days after the broadcast (i.e. available until 28th August 2005). by Webmaster Dorothy Neil |
