3rd - Valedictory Service for Whifflet Corps
On Saturday 3rd
July 2004, Bellshill band joined with Airdrie Singing Company, Divisional
Leaders Majors David and Sylvia Hinton, and many others at Whifflet Salvation
Army for a thanksgiving service for all the work that has been carried out in
God's name by that corps over the years.

Bellshill Band
set the scene by playing Danforth Citadel before the service started with the
words of the first song "Eternal God, unchanging through all the changing
years".
Major David
Hinton reminded everyone that while this was a time for reflection on the past
history of Whifflet corps, it was a time for everyone to look forward and accept
God's plan for their lives.
Selected
memories from the corps history where read and expressions of gratitude from
former corps officers where also read to the congregation.

During the
service the band played the march Amsterdam Congress which features the words
"God is love. Come let us all unite to sing, God is love". The
meditation My Heart's Desire was the band's other contribution to the meeting.
Airdrie Singing Company also contributed to the meeting with the songs
"Once Again I Thank You" and "Life, Time and Talents".

4th - Memorial
Service for Maryhill Disaster
A memorial
service for those who lost their lives when there was an explosion at the
Stockline Plastics Factory in Grovepark Street, Maryhill, earlier this year, was
held in the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall on the 4th July 2004.
The service was
led by the the Glasgow Churches Together leaders and the Lord Provost of
Glasgow. The service was attended by some of the survivors of the explosion
along with the families of many of those who lost their lives. Many of those who
were involved in the rescue operation either as part of the emergency services
or the various support teams, were also present at the memorial service.
Bellshill Band
played appropriate music at everyone attending the service, took their seats,
and also accompanied the congregational songs.
The various
leaders of the churches represented by Glasgow Churches Together took part in
the service (Major David Hinton represented the Salvation Army). Time was spent
thinking about and praying for those who were injured or lost their lives in the
disaster; the families and friends of those injured or killed; the work of the
emergency services; and the affect the disaster had on the local community.

The thoughts and
prayers of everyone in the Bellshill Corps of the Salvation Army, continue to be
with those affected by the events of 11th May 2004 at the Stockline Plastics
Factory.
