Morning meeting 26/05/2019

As the call to worship this morning the band played Brahms’ Lullaby. We associate these words with this tune:

Let thy heart be at rest,
For the Father is shown
In the love of our Master
Whose work is made known;
Only walk in his way
And thy soul shall be free,
For the peace of the Lord
Shall be laid upon thee.

This morning we were privileged to share in the dedication (christening) of Ruairidh Alexander Macsween, son of Fiona and Malcolm Macsween. The band piece this morning was especially requested by Fiona and Malcom, and was Andrew Blyth’s In God’s Presence. This features the songs Bow the Knee and All to Jesus I Surrender:

There are moments on our journey following the Lord
When God illumines ev’ry step we take.
There are times when circumstances make perfect sense to us,
As we try to understand each move He makes.
When the path grows dim and our questions have no answers, turn to Him.

Bow the knee.
Trust the heart of your Father when the answer goes beyond what you can see.
Bow the knee.
Lift your eyes toward heaven and believe the One who holds eternity.
And when you don’t understand the purpose of His plan,
In the presence of the King, bow the knee.

There are days when clouds surround us, and the rain begins to fall,
The cold and lonely winds won’t cease to blow.
And there seems to be no reason for the suffering we feel;
We are tempted to believe God does not know.
When the storms arise, don’t forget we live by faith and not by sight.

Bow the knee.
Trust the heart of your Father when the answer goes beyond what you can see.
Bow the knee.
Lift your eyes toward heaven and believe the One who holds eternity.
And when you don’t understand the purpose of His plan,
In the presence of the King, bow the knee.

All to Jesus I surrender,
All to Him I freely give;
I will ever love and trust Him,
In His presence daily live.

I surrender all,
I surrender all.
All to thee, my blessed Saviour,
I surrender all.

Major Chris reminded us this morning that we are all children of God. Just as babies takes on the characteristics of their parents, so we must take on the characteristics of God, so others can see we are a Child of God.

At the end of worship the band shared Faithful God:

Faithful God, faithful God,
all sufficient One, I worship You.

Shalom, my peace, my strong deliverer,
I lift You up, faithful God.
