Morning meeting 18/08/2019

The call to worship this morning was provided by the band, as we played the chorus As we are gathered

As we are gathered Jesus is here
One with each other, Jesus is here
Joined by the Spirit, washed in the blood
Part of the body, the church of God
As we are gathered Jesus is here
One with each other, Jesus is here

Our worship today was led by retired band sergeant Sam Ritchie. Sam asked that the band play the beautiful song arrangement Who Is He? (Benjamin Hanby arr Richard Phillips). Sam reminded us that although normally associated with Christmas, the words of this song are very applicable all year round, and challenged us to consider who is He to us?

Who is he in yonder stall
at whose feet the shepherds fall?

Who is he, in deep distress,
fasting in the wilderness?

Who is he to whom they bring
All the sick and sorrowing?

Who is he on yonder tree
Dies in grief and agony?

Who is he that from the grave
comes to succour, help and save?

Who is he who from his throne
rules through all the worlds alone?

Chorus:
‘Tis the Lord, O wondrous story!
‘Tis the Lord, the King of glory;
at his feet, we humbly fall,
crown him, crown him Lord of all!

At the conclusion of worship the band shared the tune Annie Laurie with which we associate the words

Of all in earth or Heaven,
The dearest name to me
Is the matchless name of Jesus,
The Christ of Calvary.

Chorus
The Christ of Calvary,
The dearest name to me
Is the matchless name of Jesus,
The Christ of Calvary.

I cannot help but love him,
And tell his love to me;
For he became my ransom,
The Christ of Calvary.

I could not live without him,
His love is life to me;
My blood-bought life I give him,
The Christ of Calvary.
