Morning meeting 12/08/2018

The band set the scene for worship this morning as we played Holy Ground:

When I walk through the doors I sensed His presence
And I knew this was a place where love abounds
For this is a temple the God we love abides here
Oh we are standing in His presence on holy ground

We are standing on holy ground
For I know that there are angels all around
Let us praise Jesus now
For we are standing in His presence on holy ground

In His presence I know there is joy beyond all measure
And at His feet sweet peace of mind can still be found
For when we have a need He is still the answer
Reach out and claim it for we are standing on holy ground

We are standing on holy ground
For I know that there are angels all around
Let us praise Jesus now
For we are standing in His presence on holy ground

We were inspired this morning by many testimonies from those who had just returned from the East and West Scotland Summer School, and also from those who had travelled to Ukraine as part of the Ukraine: Vision of Hope 2018 project.

Those who attended Summer School reminded us that it can be difficult when those around us expect us to be perfect because we are Christians, but that it’s ok to be imperfect. Several of the students told us how difficult it can be to forgive others, but that having asked God to help them forgive, He helped them change and find forgiveness.

Those who travelled to Ukraine as part of the Vision of Hope 2018 project, rans a kid club for children in an orphanage, while others helped build a new kitchen in an old peoples’ home. They told us how life changing their experience in Ukraine been, reminding them how fortunate we are in this country to have all we have, as so many, like those in Ukraine, have so little. They were able to show those they worked with in Ukraine, that not only do they love them, but God loves them too.

As a corps, we prayed for those who had attended Summer School, students and staff, and in particular for those who had returned to difficult situations either at home, or in their home corps. We also prayed for the many people in Ukraine who were reached by the Vision of Hope project, that their lives may have been changed for the better because of the work achieved by this project.

We were certainly in God’s presence this morning not just because of these inspiring testimonies, but also because both our songsters and band had both chosen the same song/music as their contribution to worship – The songsters sang Bow The Knee while the band played In God’s Presence (Andrew Blyth) which features Bow The Knee and All To Jesus I Surrender:

There are moments on our journey following the Lord
When God illumines ev’ry step we take.
There are times when circumstances make perfect sense to us,
As we try to understand each move He makes.
When the path grows dim and our questions have no answers, turn to Him.

Bow the knee.
Trust the heart of your Father when the answer goes beyond what you can see.
Bow the knee.
Lift your eyes toward heaven and believe the One who holds eternity.
And when you don’t understand the purpose of His plan,
In the presence of the King, bow the knee.

There are days when clouds surround us, and the rain begins to fall,
The cold and lonely winds won’t cease to blow.
And there seems to be no reason for the suffering we feel;
We are tempted to believe God does not know.
When the storms arise, don’t forget we live by faith and not by sight.

Bow the knee.
Trust the heart of your Father when the answer goes beyond what you can see.
Bow the knee.
Lift your eyes toward heaven and believe the One who holds eternity.
And when you don’t understand the purpose of His plan,
In the presence of the King, bow the knee.

All to Jesus I surrender,
All to Him I freely give;
I will ever love and trust Him,
In His presence daily live.

I surrender all,
I surrender all.
All to thee, my blessed Saviour,
I surrender all.

We closed our worship by sharing Paul Sharman’s arrangement of The Lord Bless You and Keep You by Nik and Emma Pears:

The Lord bless thee, and keep thee:
The Lord make His face to shine upon Thee,
And be gracious unto thee:
The Lord lift up His countenance upon thee,
And give thee peace.
Amen

Please keep all the students and staff who attended Summer Schools during the summer in your prayers. We also ask that you continue to pray for those whose lives have been changed by the Ukraine Vision of Hope project.
