A day in Angus 11/12/16

We spent Sunday 11th December sharing the message of Christmas with the people of Angus. Our first stop of the day was in Arbroath, where we shared morning worship with the people of St Andrew’s church.

We started the programme with two pieces in contrast: Christmas Flourishes and Sweet Little Jesus Boy.

During the meeting we shared Christmas Calypso and A Christmas Bolero. A story for the young folk in the meeting was provided by Major Lynda Connelly. Deputy Songster Leader Lynn Shanks shared the flugel horn solo Away In A Manger and to start our time of reflection YP Band Leader Chris Shanks played the euphonium solo O Holy Night. Reflections on why we must get excited about Christmas this year were provided by Assistant Band Sergeant Dorothy Neil. The band concluded the time of reflection with Who Is He?

At the end of worship we played an arrangement of Jingle Bells.

Our second stop of the day was at Morrison’s aupermarker in Arbroath, where we spend about an hour sharing carols with those doing their shopping.

Thefinal service of the day was at Lowson Memorial Church in Forfar where once again a capacity congregation joined with us for the carol service.

Highlights of the night were Who Is He?, the cornet solo The Shepherd’s Song featuring Alex Ramsay and the euphonium solo O Holy Night played by YP Band Leader Chris Shanks.

Other items from ten band included:

  • Christmas Flourishes
  • Christmas Overture
  • Christmas Calypso
  • Ukrainian Bell Carol
  • Somewhere In My Memory
  • Jingle Bells
  • Joy To The World
  • Midwinter (band song with ensemble accompaniment)

Reflections this evening about God’s shepherds were provided by Band Sergeant David Kendall.

Throughout the day monies raised were for The Free To Live Trust, Seema’s Project, and we are delighted to say that over £1,700 was raised for the charity today.

The band once again enjoyed an excellent day in Angus and so we thank everyone in St Andrew’s church and Morrison’s store in Arbroath and also Lowson Memorial church in Forfar, for their warm welcome and their hospitality.

Thank you also to those who came along and supported the band today.
