Harvest celebrations 17/09/17

Our harvest celebrations led by Majors Jean and Cliff Bradbury, got of to a great start with the band playing Kenneth A. Galloway’s arrangement of Now Thank We All Our God:

Now thank we all our God,

with heart and hands and voices,

who wondrous things has done,

in whom this world rejoices;

who from our mothers’ arms

has blessed us on our way

with countless gifts of love,

and still is ours today.

Last December the corps raised money in aid of Mathare Kosovo Salvation Army Community School in Nairobi, Kenya. This morning we watched a short video from Richard Bradbury where he thanked our corps for the money we raised.

Major Cliff reminded us this morning that we must celebrate our successes, but also accept that it is ok to fail. The most important thing being that we have tried.

During worship the band played Darren Bartlett’s (arranged by Olaf Ritman) The Lord Is Gracious. It is based on Psalm 103 and includes the words “The Lord is gracious, abounding in perfect love, and slow to anger. He rules the earth in Heav’n above”.

We finished the meeting with another harvest song, Bringing In The Sheaves :

Sowing in the morning, sowing seeds of kindness,
Sowing in the noontide and the dewy eve;
Waiting for the harvest, and the time of reaping,
We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves.

Chorus

Bringing in the sheaves, bringing in the sheaves,
We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves;
Bringing in the sheaves, bringing in the sheaves,
We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves.

As a corps we shared lunch together before joining together again in the final meeting of our Harvest weekend.

Before the meeting started the band played an arrangement of I Will Enter His Gates:

I will enter His gates with thanksgiving in my heart;

I will enter His courts with praise.

I will say this is the day that the Lord has made.

I will rejoice for He has made me glad.

He has made me glad, He has made me glad,

I will rejoice for He has made me glad.

He has made me glad, He has made me glad,

I will rejoice for He has made me glad.

Our contribution to worship was Andrew Blyth’s Immeasurable.

This afternoon included the debut performance from our worship band as they shared the powerful song, Build Your Kingdom Here We Pray. It was so good they sang the song again, this time with the congregation joining in!

We were also treated to a beautiful vocal solo from Olwyn Mathie, How Great Thou Art.

Major Jean urged us to remember to thank God for all He provides for us, and to be prepared to go into our community this coming week and tell them that God loves them.

Following the final song of our harvest celebrations, the band closed our meeting by reminding us again that:

Lord, if your presence does not go with us,

Please do not send us up from here.

How will anyone know we are your people

Unless you go before us?

Lord, if your favour does not rest on us

We dare not move beyond this place,

How will anyone know we go in your name

Unless your blessing is over us?

So we stand within your presence,

And humbly seek your grace;

Father Almighty, Jehovah, Saviour,

We long to meet you face to face.

Let your glory fall upon us,

Convict, inspire, provide;

Father Almighty, Jehovah, Saviour,

Your holy presence is our guide.

Lord if your presence does not stay with us,

Please do not send us up from here.

How will anyone hear of truth and goodness

Unless your Word speaks through us?

Lord, if your presence is not love in us

How can we minister your grace?

How will anyone feel your tender mercy

Unless your heart is in us?

So we stand within your presence…
