Good Friday reflections 30/03/2018

To prepare us for our Good Friday service the band shared the hymn tunes Passion Chorale and Horsley, with which we associate the following words:

O sacred Head, now wounded, with grief and shame weighed down,
Now scornfully surrounded with thorns, Thine only crown;
O sacred Head, what glory, what bliss till now was Thine!
Yet, though despised and gory, I joy to call Thee mine.

There is a green hill far away,
outside a city wall,
where our dear Lord was crucified
who died to save us all.

The band played twice during this evening’s worship. Our first piece was a lovely arrangement of the song To Thy Cross I Come:

To thy cross I come, Lord,
There for me is room, Lord,
Poor unworthy me, even me.
Pardon every sin, Lord,
Place thy power within, Lord,
Then I from this hour will follow thee

Before we played our second contribution to worship, Olwyn Mathie sang the beautiful solo Once and For All.

We played an arrangement of the hymn tune Deep Harmony, to which we associate the words

When I survey the wondrous cross
On which the Prince of Glory died.
My richest gain I count but loss,
And pour contempt on all my pride.

At the end of worship we played Amazing Love:

Lord, what love is this
That pays so dearly
That I, the guilty one
May go free!

Amazing love, what sacrifice
The Son of God, given for me
My debt He pays, and my death He dies
That I might live, that I might live!

And so, they watched Him die
Despised, rejected
But oh, the blood He shed
Flowed for me!

Amazing love, what sacrifice
The Son of God, given for me
My debt He pays, and my death He dies
That I might live, that I might live!

And now, this love of Christ
Shall flow like rivers
So come wash your guilt away
Live again!

Amazing love, what sacrifice
The Son of God, given for me
My debt He pays, and my death He dies
That I might live, that I might live!

That I might live, that I might live!
