In the Scriptures, there are many references to God asking us to, ‘Be Still’.
In Psalm 46:10 He says, “Be Still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth”.
Exodus 14:14 says, “The Lord will fight for you: you need only be still”.
While in Psalm 62:5 we read, “For God alone, Oh my soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from him”
Earlier this year, before national lockdown in March, we started working on a new piece of music to us entitled ‘Be Still‘. It is a beautiful setting of the wonderful tune Finlandia written by Jean Sibelius, arranged by Dorothy Gates.
The words speak of God’s peace and comfort amid the trials of life.
Be still, my soul: The Lord is on your side;
Bear patiently the cross of grief or pain.
Leave to your God to order and provide;
In every change he faithful will remain.
Be still, my soul: Your best, your heavenly Friend
Through thorny ways leads to a joyful end.
Be still, my soul: Your God will undertake
To guide the future as he has the past.
Your hope, your confidence let nothing shake;
All now mysterious shall be bright at last.
Be still, my soul: The waves and winds still know
His voice who ruled them while he dwelt below.
Be still, my soul: The hour is hastening on
When we shall be forever with the Lord,
When disappointment, grief, and fear are gone,
Sorrow forgot, love’s purest joys restored.
Be still, my soul: When change and tears are past,
All safe and blessed we shall meet at last.
As we’ve not been able to play together as a band since March, it has been great to be able produce this recording together, to continue our ministry.
We hope you enjoy our latest virtual recording, are blessed by the music.
