Last updated: 01/11/2007 After many years
service as a bandsman at a number of corps, Alex decided in summer 2007 it was
time to "hang up his cornet"!
I started playing with Parkhead
Senior Band in March 1943 (aged 11). There was no YP Band at Parkhead at that
time, and some of the Bandsmen were away on War Service.
I was commissioned as a Senior
Bandsman in 1948 and continued my service in Parkhead band until 1990. During
this time I held various positions within the corps. These included Band
Secretary, YP Band Leader (on 2 occasions), Deputy Bandmaster, Bandmaster and
Singing Company Leader.
I transferred to Clydebank Corps in
1990 until in 2001, I transferred to Bellshill due to health reasons (as
Bellshill is closer to home.
